Summary: This is a beautiful place, but no where on Expedia's website or Relais' website did it say that you couldn't check in past midnight. We got lost driving up from southern Italy, and the place was locked up when we arrived. We did check in that following day, but were charged for the first night, when we had to find lodging somewhere else!
