La Stazione, which is situated on the side of a hill in a peaceful valley on the Tuscan/Umbrian border, gets its name from the fact that it was the last house on the Tuscan side of an old road where riders would change horses before dropping down into Umbria. Thick walls mean the house is cool despite hot summers and the adjoining woods means the house also stays cool at night. You can sit in the garden or on the upstairs terrace and enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape and the medieval castle of Lippiano which is directly opposite. These are the landscapes which inspired Piero della Francesca and the house has several quiet corners and terraces from which you can paint, read, or just sit and contemplate the beauty of it all. From behind the house you can also see the castle tower of Monte San Tiberina while from the terrace you may see local deer, hares or even spot a wild boar.. The croaking frogs may serenade you, and if you come in the right season the fireflies may light the terrace for you. For those of moderate fitness there is a bar in walking distance across the valley as well as a lovely circular walk through a chestnut forest which leads back to the house.
