Positive: Beautiful former nunnery with a history. Lovingly converted and lots of original detail. Good facilities and very clean. Lovely breakfast and pool area. Great location in the centre of historical Pienza and no noise whatsoever from the town.

Negative: We arrived about 2230hrs in the middle of a spectacular lightning storm. We had prepaid our rooms. We took our suitcases to the hotel and got soaked only to find that the hotel was completely locked up with no means of entry. We called the emergency number listed on the door but that went to voicemail. I sent a text explaining the situation and this has yet to be responded to 5 days later. Luckily, we were afforded access by a returning guest. Once we found reception this was also totally empty and a search of the hotel failed to trace any member of staff. There was a list of staff phone numbers on the desk so we tried these with no response. I could give them the benefit of the doubt that the storm had caused some sort of outage. We eventually found a list with our allocated room numbers. I'm not proud of the fact that we then resorted to searching the desk for our keys which we eventually found. Thankfully, they were pre-programmed and we gained access to our rooms eventually. The next morning at breakfast, I was challenged by a surly receptionist as to how we gained access to our rooms, so I politely told her the truth. I also explained that an Emergency number is exactly that, and it should be answered. My concern being that a more serious situation could have arisen and no assistance was available. Later on that morning, i had sent my luggage onto the next destination with my passport. I went to the same surly receptionist to pay my tourist tax. She demanded my passport and when I told her I had sent it on ahead , there was much sighing, tutting etc and she told me to go and get it. I gently explained that this was not possible, but she wasn't having it. She eventually accepted my driving licence as proof of identity but made it known she wasn't happy. My sister (who I was travelling with) tells me their website says there is a 24 hour service, but that clearly is not the case. A sorry would be good. Other than that-a good hotel.
